Dorothy reached out to me earlier this month about photographing Alice’s baptism and taking some family photos after the Mass. Sweet Alice and her adorable big brother Brendan were so sweet and impressively well behaved for the entire morning. But no matter how cooperative the kids are or how smoothly things ultimately go, we all know that planning and pulling off family events is always a juggling act when babies and small children are involved. I am always happy when I get the chance to photograph parties and events because I know that it’s just one less thing that the parents or hosts have to worry about and as a chronically multi-tasking mom of two myself, I know what a relief it is to know that something big on your to-do list is totally covered.
We’re all torn between being present in the moment but yet somehow also capturing and preserving the good stuff so that we can relive it down the road and so that the ones who are too young to remember it can experience it too. When you hand over the job of documentarian to someone else for a few hours, you get the chance to truly relax and experience your big day and then see it all again later from the outside looking in. Here are a few of my favorites from Alice’s special morning.
