Ashwin was one of many babies that I’ve recently photographed who were born in the midst of the record breaking, snowiest winter that Boston has even seen. His arrival home from the hospital coincided with one of the really big blizzards which made travel in downtown Boston more than a bit challenging. When I met Ashwin’s mom Meghan, she was settling into new motherhood with like a pro and handling this extraordinary winter with much more grace than I imagine I might. As a mom to a summer baby and then a spring baby, early walks outside (which admittedly were often directly to the Starbucks near our old Cambridge apartment) were something I took for granted along with the fact that cold and flu season was over.
But setting aside the unique challenges of winter babies, there’s something especially cozy about being hunkered down with a newborn in the middle of a long, snowy winter. Meghan’s parents were visiting and helping out when I was there and there’s nothing that makes a house feel warmer than someone’s mom being there and taking care of everything and everyone. Ashwin was a sweetheart, dozing occasionally but giving us plenty of pensive looks and occasional full blown smiles. By now, the snow is melting and I am sure that Meghan and Adam are getting out and about much more with Ashwin but I hope that these photos captured a glimpse of those early days that are often such a hazy memory. Congratulations again!
