Meghan contacted me when Ben was just about two weeks old, wondering if I could fit a newborn session in with last minute notice. Typically, it’s best to reserve a newborn session 2-3 months in advance and then I hold several time session slots around your due date. But lately, those unruly babies haven’t been arriving as scheduled and in turn, my schedule has been shifted a bit with many sessions taking place earlier than planned. That meant that I had some room on a Saturday morning to meet Ben just as he was turning three weeks old.
Little Ben definitely made his mom and dad work during our session and like pros, they were all pulling out all of the soothing techniques that they’ve been perfecting over the last few weeks. They bounced, they shushed, they swaddled, they fed and burped him, changed his diapers and demonstrated so many variations of baby holds that Dr. Harvey Karp would have been proud. Every baby has their tough moments and their tough days for that matter but there’s something pretty amazing about how quickly new parents’ instincts kick into gear, despite severe sleep deprivation. And despite the fact that they’ve only known Ben for a matter of weeks, Meghan and Rob already seemed to have mastered what may be the most important parenting technique of all–They rolled with the punches and when all else failed, they found a way to laugh. Of course when I left, Ben took a luxurious 3 hour nap. I was never good about following this rule, but I hope that Meghan and Rob followed his lead!
Jamie BodoWhat a cutie pie! Beautiful work 😉
