Last week, we took on the parenting rite of passage that is Disney and bravely traveled to the Magic Kingdom. It was a surprise to the girls (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRBoUzUd3iY) and their first plane ride and ultimately they had as much fun with the airport, plane experience and the hotel as they did flying through the air on Dumbo and meeting an array of princesses and furry characters all week. That’s the real magic of being 2 and 5, after all. Instead of bemoaning the airport lines, security protocols and lousy food offerings of planes, kids see it as just one more adventure to take on. Disney world was no different. While the crowds, lines and sensory overload could take down even the strongest of adults, it’s different when you’re experiencing it all through the eyes of your kids. I’m so glad we went now, while Zoe is still full of total innocence and wonder and still believes that somehow, Tinkerbell actually flew over the crowd during the evening fireworks display. I don’t know what they are pumping into the air in Disneyworld but it works. While Mike and I were ready to head home and return to some semblance of routine by the end of the week, there’s a lot to be said for making a little room in your life for some magic every now and then.
Happily ever after…
