Lilly’s 2nd birthday

Lilly turned 2 last week and because I happen to think that birthdays are a big deal, we did it up right from start to finish on her special day.

First, it was critical to document her belly rolls and bedhead on her first day of being 2:

Next, a growing girl needs breakfast, so off to the the Deluxe Town Diner, where she and I also spent her first birthday.

Then, off to Discovery museums in Acton where I’d been before with Zoe but never with Lilly. She was a big fan of everything and after we played inside, the light rain began to let up so we visited the dinosaur in the backyard area before we left.

After a solid car nap for Lilly, we headed to the Public Garden, also a stop on her 1st birthday last year. The rain had stopped entirely and with the warm temperatures, the conditions were perfect for Lilly to really break in her new rain boots. I also had to get a few shots of her in her new dress just because I couldn’t help myself.

But in case you were worried that I made her model without compensation, the carousel started operating as the sun was coming out so we made our way across the Common for not one, but 2 rides on the merry go round.  She held onto me for dear life on the first ride, then begged to go again and then held on for dear life all over again.  She much preferred pretending that the curb was her balance beam and walking along it for nearly a half hour.

Eventually, we made our way to dinner at Bartley’s burgers in Harvard Square with Mike and Zoe.

The last stop was for ice cream at JP Licks, a few doors down. When it was time to leave, Mike took Zoe to the bathroom inside and Lilly and I stepped outside to wait for them. We weren’t outside for 30 seconds when she spotted an enormous puddle that remained in the otherwise dry square.  There was no stopping her and really, who would try to get in the way of  someone chasing pure joy?
