I celebrated my 40th birthday in the best way I could imagine: Surrounded by the ones who I love the most, with warm sunshine on my face and just steps away from the ocean. We ate too much fresh guacamole, sipped cool tropical drinks, slept in like we were all teenagers and had the sheer luxury of a week in which we had NOTHING that we had to do.
Of course, life can’t work that way and that’s more than apparent as the vacation week comes to an end. It’s incredible how quickly reality comes storming back after you leave it for a while and the calendar is already filling up again with work and dentist appointments and things like filing taxes and oil changes and on and on. There is no way to escape the responsibilities that come with being an adult and you can’t ever really replicate the feeling of complete serenity that a vacation brings. Still, I know that we all came back just a little bit refreshed, renewed and so very thankful for the memories that this week created. If this is 40, I’ll gladly take it.
